Recognition and status for installation technicians
Qualification plus experience leads to accreditation


The MESF has established levels of knowledge, experience and skill for installation technicians against which accreditation can be awarded. By bringing together qualifications and industry involvement, the MESF’s career path accreditation gives installation technicians goals to achieve, demonstrates pride in their abilities and the industry that employs them and for employers, insurers and consumers determines the competence they can expect.

The vehicle enhancement industry is diverse and varied;
an installation technician may specialise in one area at a time but still have an interest and involvement in others. For this reason the MESF Career Path accommodates specialisation and encourages gaining broader based knowledge and skills as part of continuous professional development.

MESF Student
This is an individual who has signed on to an MESF Certificate 1 Basic Installation course without having employment in the industry. An MESF Student with the MESF Certificate 1 Basic Installation qualification is ready to begin a career in vehicle enhancement.

MESF Registered Installation Technician
This is an individual who is employed in the industry and has completed a relevant industry course or is studying for their MESF Certificate 1. An MESF Registered Installation Technician with the MESF Certificate 1 Basic Installation qualification is at the first stage of advancement in a career in vehicle enhancement.
At this level a technician can install a limited and controlled range of products.

MESF Accredited Installation Technician
This is an individual who has gained the MESF Certificate 1 Basic Installation qualification plus has a minimum of two years employment in the vehicle enhancement industry and has attended at least two relevant industry courses.
At this level a technician will be competent to install, service and diagnose a controlled range of products.

MESF Enhancement Technician
This is an individual who has gained the MESF Certificate 2 Intermediate Installation qualification in a specific product group and has achieved the MESF Certificate Installation Skills in the same product group.
The MESF Enhancement Technician will have a minimum of three years employment in the vehicle enhancement industry and have attended at least three relevant industry courses.
At this level a technician will be able to specify and install a wide and varied range of products as well as service, diagnose and rectify faults in them. The MESF Enhancement Technician will have some knowledge of a range of vehicle wiring systems and be competent to direct the work of others in the qualified product group.

MESF Advanced Enhancement Technician
This is an individual who has gained the MESF Certificate 3 Advanced Installation qualification in two specific product groups and has achieved the MESF Certificate Installation Skills in one of the product groups.
The MESF Advanced Enhancement Technician will have a minimum of four years employment in the vehicle enhancement industry and have attended at least four relevant industry courses.
At this level a technician will be able to specify and install a wider and more varied range of products as well as service, diagnose and rectify faults in them.
The MESF Advanced Enhancement Technician will have sufficient knowledge of vehicle wiring systems to achieve integration and also be competent to direct the work of others.

MESF Master Enhancement Technician
This is an individual who has gained the MESF Certificate 4 Master Installation qualification in at least three specific product groups and has achieved the MESF Certificate Installation Skills in at least one of the product groups.
The MESF Master Enhancement Technician will have a minimum of six years employment in the vehicle enhancement industry and have attended at least six relevant industry courses.
At this level a technician will be able to specify and install a comprehensive and varied range of products as well as service, diagnose and rectify faults in them.
The MESF Master Enhancement Technician will have a broad knowledge of vehicle wiring and construction and be able to investigate unfamiliar vehicles to determine successful integration.
The MESF Master Enhancement Technician will also be competent to directthe work of others.
Because of the high levels of knowledge and skills MESF Master Enhancement Technicians possesses they will be leading the development of the installation techniques required by the introduction of new vehicle and enhancement product technology. They will also be active in sharing their knowledge and skills with other installation technicians and keeping training material up to date.

An MESF Master Enhancement Technician is a dedicated professional and a role model for others.

Fees
There is no fee for Accreditation. All costs involved are met by the course, audit and retest fees where applicable.
A photo ID card is available on request.

Maintenance
To maintain Accreditation all qualifications and audits must remain valid and in date with industry relevant courses attended (at least one per year). An industry relevant course could be a new product introduction, a technical seminar or a training course. Participation can be by attendance, self study, distance learning or any method which includes evidence of participation and/or outcome i.e. a dated certificate.
